Gingrich: GOP Will Go Back to the Basics

Friday, February 27th, 2009

In this week’s episode of Washington Unplugged, host Bob Schieffer talks with Newt Gingrich about where the GOP is fitting into this new Washington, and how they may try and redefine themselves.

”This budget sets the stage for the biggest fight for the future of America since 1965,” said Gingrich.

Schieffer also talks with Craig Mullaney about his new book “The Unforgiving Minute”, and of course his round-table.

Enjoy!

Obama on 60 Minutes

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Sunday's exclusive interview of President-elect Obama on 60 Minutes was a huge get...ratings-wise.

TVNewser, part of Mediabistro.com, reports 60 Minutes drew 25.1 million viewers. That is the highest viewership in nearly a decade.

The show is broken up into parts so it’s easier to digest, but I was still sucked into watching all of it.

The following clip is of both Barack and Michelle, and I found it the most interesting.

Who is this Joe Fella?

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

"Joe the Plumber" was center stage last night during the final Presidential Debate.

Senator McCain first brought him up as an example as one person who would NOT benefit from Senator Obama’s tax plan, and Joe is significant because he personally spoke to Obama about his taxes possibly being raised if he owns his own business.
Let’s get a little background.

“Joe the Plumber” is Joe Wurzelbacher from Holland, Ohio. And last night, he became the most sought after man by the media. CBS News’ Katie couric had him on her webcast last night after the debate.

But, with national spotlight glaring onto his life, something has been revealed that hasn’t missed the attention of “Joe the Plumbers’” county. He doesn’t have a license to be a practicing plumber…and neither does his employer.

Will this threw a wrench into his plans of buying out that business and possibly moving into a higher tax bracket? Who knows. But, it does make for interesting conversation.

Just Can’t Get Enough

Monday, October 13th, 2008

I can’t seem to get enough of this video.

Fascinating on so many levels. The day after Senator McCain tried to tamp down the crowds, Senator Obama and Biden acknowledged the effort and according to The Politico expressed optimism that McCain will chose to back off those attacks.

Things Are Getting Ugly…

Monday, October 6th, 2008

The days are flying by until voting day and the claws are coming out. I seem to remember both candidates say they wouldn’t go negative… but hey, that was before all heck broke loose on Wall Street (among other things)

So, here’s what we’ve got from the campaigns. Senator Obama’s camp has just released a 13 minute video on the late 1980s Keating 5 scandal involving Senator McCain. Thirteen minutes. That’s long enough to be considered a documentary!

And Governor Palin has been on the campaign trail criticizing Senator Obama for ‘paling around with terrorists’.

It’s pretty well-known that while the public doesn’t necessarily like the negative campaigning, it is the most effective. I guess we’ll see which candidate will most effectively use the tactic.

McCain, Palin at CBS

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

What a roller coaster of a day! On top of the great debate about debating, Katie Couric landed BOTH people on the Republican ticket.

The Gov. Palin interview was scheduled to air tonight, but Senator McCain made a pretty shocking statement earlier today. He announced that he wanted to suspend his campaign and delay the upcoming debate.

Check out the interview with Palin:

At some point this afternoon we realized there was a ’situation’ going on downstairs. My boss grabbed his camera and darn near ran smack into Sen. McCain!

Here is the full interview that he did with Katie Couric.

Wall Street and The Candidates

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

With the direness of the Wall Street meltdown, I am a) glad to see that lipstick and pigs are off the front page b) happy that the candidates are actually focusing on an issue now c) crossing my fingers that steps have been taken to stop this jugular bleeding.

I thought we should check out the two ‘economy’ ads put out by the campaigns.

Senator McCain’s ‘Crisis’:

Senator Obama’s ‘Plan for Change’:

While I think it’s great they are paying attention to the economy let’s face it. The President’s position is fairly removed from what is happening. The Federal Reserve is the institution to look to. The President, at most, would pass or veto legislation that deals with banking regulation. I guess the logical next question is what are some previous banking regulations passed up to the President and how did he vote.

(I sense a research project coming on…)

60 Days and Counting.

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

Conventions are over. Tickets are picked. There’s no slowing down this campaign season now.

If you thought we’d seen all we needed to see for this presidential campaign, you’ve got another thing coming. It has really just begun.

Here’s what we’re looking at for the next two months:

3 Presidential Debates
1 Vice Presidential Debate
1 Election Day
Hundreds of speeches

Both sides of the race have come out of the box swinging. Sen. Biden, long-time friend of Sen. McCain, wasn’t

holding back when he said, “It’s what I didn’t hear from the conveniton. The silence was deafening.”

Gov. Palin quickly made jabs at Sen. Obama about “some use change to help their career and others use their career to make change.”
